What You Think Changes Who You Are. You may find yourself trapped in negative thought patterns, saying things to yourself like: 'I'll never get that job,' 'They don't like me,' 'I am ugly,' or 'I'm so stupid!' You become these self-statements, despite the fact that you aren't any of these statements all the time, if ever. That's not to say that you don't mess up. But, and this is important, you are not your thoughts or your mistakes. An article in Scientific American illustrates this concept: |

The following is sample from the NPR article above:
To get security clearance for jobs in the military or the government, applicants must say whether they've undergone counseling in recent years. Some experts say this question — known as Question 21 — is discouraging people from applying for jobs or from getting help.

Loneliness is painful, but it is just a temporary condition of the mind. Your thoughts are the conditions of your mind, and thankfully, you can change your thoughts. Reading this, your thoughts have changed for this moment. Thinking about how you sense and feel your body in your chair has changed your thoughts for the moment. When you change your thoughts, you change your mind. This happens moment-by-moment. Moment-by-moment our thoughts are changing, and therefore our mind is changing moment-by-moment, as well. |

Sleeping Problems are solvable. I can help you. Sleeping problems can be due to other problems or originate from a difficult event. Sleeping problems can also be catalysts for other, more serious problems. It is crucial that you do not wait too long before you get help from a professional. Our body and mind needs regular night time sleep in order to do normal repair, maintenance and to de-stress. Often times, sleep problems begin with one bad night. Unfortunately, we can quickly lose control over our sleep schedules and develop some pretty bad habits. |

As long as we are in conflict with life's difficulties, thinking that things should be different from the way they are and blaming circumstance or other people for our unhappiness, we will never have the clarity or spaciousness of mind to see what is really binding us. Once we fully accept other people as they are without the slightest judgement or reservation - the way all enlightened beings accept us - then there will be no basis for problems in our relations with others. Problems do not exist outside our mind, so when we stop seeing other people as problems they stop being problems. The person who is a problem to a non-accepting mind does not exist in the calm, clear space of patient acceptance. How to Solve our Human Problems -Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

I have PROUDLY JOINED the GIVE AN HOUR™ NETWORK to Provide Free Counseling to Troops & Families
Give an Hour™ (www.giveanhour.org) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), founded in September 2005 by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, a psychologist in the Washington, D.C., area. The organization’s mission is to develop national networks of volunteers capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society. Currently, GAH is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of the troops and families affected by the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Give an Hour™ currently has more than 5,200 providers across the nation—in all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam—and continues to recruit volunteer mental health professionals to its network.
